From the Street: People Ask…

Concerns about development are visible across Lincoln Heights.

On this website, I plan to write about some of my experiences and the contacts I make as I campaign up to the election date on October 26, 2026.

Today, for example, I got a call from a gentleman asking me to confirm if I am actually running to represent Ward Five. I confirmed that I was. It seems that he and a group of his friends are looking for a candidate they can stand behind, endorse and assist with the campaign process.

We talked for about half an hour, and I soon realized that his concerns, like those of many people in Lincoln Heights, centred on the rezoning and development of church lands. There are two churches currently under the umbrella of this plan. He was searching for a candidate with roots in the community and one who could appreciate the history and unique characteristics of our neighbourhood.

He was also concerned with other issues and mentioned that at Moses Springer Park, his son and his friend had seen evidence of drug paraphernalia and drug addicts who were high. Naturally, as a father, he found these observations to be surprising.

As a citizen, he was disturbed by the non-communicative nature of his interactions with the municipal government to date and hoped for greater transparency. We also spoke of provincial and federal trends. He felt the other three candidates would not serve his needs as a voter, but at this point, I think he is still assessing me as well.

I confess, I do not have all the answers, but I will listen so that I can learn. I will listen to serve whatever trends emerge as needs in Lincoln Heights, the Ward, the City and the Region.
